Oakland Police Department to Conduct 11th Operation Motor Santa

The Oakland Police Department Traffic Operation Section will conduct its annual Motor Santa Operation to provide toys to children (12 and under) throughout the City of Oakland.

Oakland, CA — The Oakland Police Department Traffic Operation Section will
conduct its annual Motor Santa Operation to provide toys to children (12 and
under) throughout the City of Oakland.
In this OPD tradition, a police traffic officer dresses up as Santa and rides his
motorcycle throughout the City of Oakland, passing out toys to children he
encounters along the way. Per Traffic Section Commander Lieutenant Dave Elzey,
“This is a fun and unique way we give back to the community.”
Chief Anne Kirkpatrick agrees: “This is a great community policing example and
something our officers really enjoy doing each year.”
The event is scheduled to take place as follows:
DATE: Wednesday, December 20, 2017
TIME: 7:00 AM; ends when the toys are all given away.
WHO: Oakland Police Department Traffic Officers
LOCATION: The Motor Santa ride begins at the Eastmont Police Substation
(2551-73rd Avenue). Santa and his helpers will travel through the City to West
Oakland and finish up in North Oakland.
This is the 11th annual toy giveaway coordinated by the Traffic Section. This year,
over 500 toys were donated or purchased with money donated from the following
charitable contributors: The Oakland Police Foundation, Toys R Us of Dublin
(Store Managers Jose Salazar and Alberto Gonzalez), Quality Tech Automotive of
Oakland, and members of the Oakland Police Department.
