San Francisco Chronicle Makes Clarification to Misleading Readers in October 21, 2018 Article
On October 21, 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle inaccurately published an article entitled, “Oakland police applicants asked to allow disclosure of whether they were sexually assaulted” then published a clarifying article (link below).
After the article was published, the Department reached out to the San Francisco Chronicle and requested a correction/clarification that the Oakland Police Department does not ask applicants if they were sexual assault victims.
On November 4, 2018, the San Francisco Chronicle did publish a clarification in the Sunday paper and online regarding the SF Chronicle Articles. San Francisco Chronicle Clarification Reads: “Two stories about Oakland police hiring should have made clear that the department did not directly ask applicants whether they had been sexually assaulted. The department required applicant to sign a waiver asking other agencies to turn over confidential information to Oakland police, including “if I have been a victim of sexual assault.”
