In the Name of Love: The 16th Annual Musical Tribute Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In the Name of Love: The 16th Annual Musical Tribute Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is an extensive civic and cultural event bringing our diverse community together to honor, through music, the inspirational teachings of the great Dr. King.

Each year the Human Services Department selects the humanitarian award recipient for this annual MLK event, "In the Name of Love" a musical tribute honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The 16th Annual Tribute celebrated the Civil Rights movement through the music of Marvin Gaye.

This year's event was held on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Oakland Scottish Rite Center. This annual event is produced by Living Jazz, an Oakland based non-profit.

This year's award recipient is Ms. Wendy Jackson, executive director of the East Oakland Community Project for her dedication to eliminating homelessness in our community. This organization supports Oakland's homeless prevention efforts.
