The Oakland Police Department (OPD) Homicide Division is investigating an attempted murder of an officer. The incident occurred on December 1, 2020, at approximately 1:46 AM. California Highway Patrol (CHP) advised OPD's Communications Division of a vehicle pursuit in the 9800 block of Golf Links Road. CHP stated their officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop on a vehicle that sped past them. The vehicle was traveling upwards of 100 MPH eastbound on Interstate 580 before exiting the 98th Avenue off-ramp.

CHP advised during the pursuit, an occupant within the vehicle shot at their officers in the 2700 block of 98th Avenue. CHP officers did not return gunfire and lost sight of the vehicle. Thankfully, no officers or community members were injured.

Oakland Police Officers immediately responded to the area and assisted CHP with a search. The vehicle was found abandoned near Thermal Avenue and Seneca Street. Witnesses told officers the driver of the vehicle collided with a parked car and three occupants fled the area.
