Fatal Hit & Run Investigation in the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard

On February 17, 2021, at approximately 6:14 p.m., Oakland police officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard to investigate a report of a vehicle fatally striking a pedestrian.

On February 17, 2021, at approximately 6:14 p.m., Oakland police officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Foothill Boulevard to investigate a report of a vehicle fatally striking a pedestrian.

During the preliminary investigation, responding officers learned that a pedestrian, a male adult Oakland resident, was in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Mitchell Street. The person was struck by a silver vehicle that was traveling westbound on Foothill Boulevard. After the collision, the silver vehicle fled the scene without stopping. The pedestrian was then struck by a second vehicle. The driver of that vehicle stayed on scene and is cooperating with investigating officers.

The Oakland Fire Department arrived on scene and provided medical treatment to the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision.
