Recovered Firearm

The City of Oakland continues to experience an increase of people operating dirt bikes and ATVs recklessly throughout Oakland, specifically at Lake Merritt. On June 6, 2021, Oakland Police Officers supporting traffic control witnessed multiple individuals carelessly riding dirt bikes in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue.

Officers observed one of the riders attempting to pick up a pair of goggles when a firearm fell from the person’s front waistband. The officer immediately issued multiple commands, informing the individual to not reach for the firearm. However, the individual disregarded the officer’s instructions, grabbed the firearm, tossed it, and headed southbound on Lakeshore Avenue on his dirt bike. The officer recovered the firearm.

This is an ongoing investigation. If you have any information about this case, call the Criminal Investigation Division at (510) 238-3728.

The Oakland Police Department continues to work with the City to address the quality of life crimes at Lake Merritt and throughout Oakland.
