Fire Prevention Bureau Appointment Types

Review information below about each appointment type offered by the Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB)

*NOTE: FPB will try to provide same-day issuance for permits needed, however not all permits can be granted without further review and field inspection by the Fire Department. FPB cannot guarantee same-day (over the counter) issuance.


1. Vegetation Management Meeting

  • Description: Meet with Fire Prevention Bureau staff to ask questions or address items pertaining to Vegetation Management (VM) Program.
    For VM billing questions please email fpbilling@oaklandca.gov.
  • What to Bring to your Appointment: Oakland Fire Prevention Bureau FDV# or inspection record documents


2. Occupancy Permit Meeting

  • Description: Ask questions or review the requirements for an Occupancy Permit application.
  • What to Bring to your Appointment: Oakland Fire Prevention Bureau Intake Request Form or Inspection Record number.


3. Submit Payment

  • Description: Submit payment to the Fire Prevention Bureau. Does NOT include FDB or FDV invoices or payment for Plan Review, please refer to your invoice number to confirm.
  • What to Bring to Your Appointment:
    • Copy of your invoice displaying the invoice number (hard copy or picture of invoice are acceptable)
    • Form of payment - check or credit card only, no cash accepted.

If your invoice number begins in "FDB" or "FDV", please submit payment by taking one of the following actions:

  • Click here to schedule an appointment with the Cashier.

  • Note: We recommend that you bring a USB flash drive to your computer workstation appointment, in order to upload and/or download any documents or materials, such as a permit application or plans.

When You Arrive & COVID Safety

Please review this information closely to prepare for your in-person visit

WHEN YOU ARRIVE:

Please do not come to City buildings or facilities if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive. COVID-19 symptoms include, but are not limited to: chills, cough, fever, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath, or sore throat.

  • Masks are required for entry into City buildings.
  • When you first enter the building, you will be asked to complete a non-touch temperature screening;
  • Next, check-in with the security guard and sign the visitors log;
  • After signing the log, go to the greeter station;
  • Share your name and appointment information with the greeter, and be prepared to show your appointment confirmation email to the greeter (on your phone or printed copy)
  • After confirming your appointment, the greeter will direct you to wait in the waiting area on the first floor, please remain in this area until a Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) staff member meets you.
  • FPB staff will meet you on the first floor, then escort you to the second floor for your counter appointment.

PLEASE NOTE: All in-person appointments with the Fire Prevention Bureau are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, it will be cancelled automatically, and you will need to visit the scheduling website to book a new appointment for the next available business day.
