Attend a Bulky Block Party event for free large-item disposal

Join us on the last Saturday of every month for a Bulky Block Party to dispose of your large unwanted items -- the right way, and for free! Residents only. Please bring proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

Bulky Block Party events are typically held the last Saturday of every month (except during holiday weekends) from 9am to 1pm at 7101 Edgewater Drive, Oakland, CA. Oakland residents may drop off items that don't fit in their trash cart at home for free!

Please note: Bulky Block Party dates have not yet been confirmed for November and December of 2023. Check this website in the fall for updates.

This service is open to Oakland residents only – proof of residency such as a household bill will be required (no businesses please).

Commercial customers will be redirected from these events – they may pay to dispose of large trash loads nearby at the Waste Management Davis Street Transfer Station, located at 2615 Davis Street in San Leandro.

Additionally, OPW will be limiting rental vehicles allowed at the event. Still allowed are personal vehicles and rental moving vehicles like trucks and vans – up to a length of 10’. Rental moving trucks over 10’ will be redirected to the Davis Street Transfer Station.

These updates to the Bulky Block Party service are intended to keep more Oaklanders moving through the line more swiftly.

Curbside Bulky Pickup service is provided by Waste Management of Alameda County as a part of the City of Oakland’s Zero Waste program. Information about curbside Bulky Pickup service is online at www.oaklandrecycles.com/bulky-pickup-services. Homeowners and property managers may contact Waste Management directly to schedule a bulky pickup by calling (510) 613-8710.

What materials are accepted?

All bulky trash is welcome, except for any hazardous waste or materials including: paints & coatings, oil, gasoline, auto fluids, propane, gas cylinders, cleaners/ bleach, garden products (pesticides, fertilizer, weed killer), batteries, bulbs/ lamps, syringes, pool & spa chemicals, appliances with hazardous waste such as antifreeze or oil, etc.

Who can participate?

All Oakland residents, including home owners and renters.

Who cannot come: businesses, for-hire haulers, contractors, painters, organizations, apartments & condominium managers, clubs, and non-profits.
