The City of Oakland, Oakland Public Library, and two community-focused architectural and planning consultants, will be working closely with Oakland residents of all ages and from all parts of the city to re-imagine the educational and social experience at two public library branches: the Oakland Main and a new Hoover library as Oakland envisions the future of our Library system!

Everyone has a voice in shaping the vision for how these library branches reflect and serve their neighborhood, the library system, and the entire city of Oakland. Please participate in the process, share your thoughts, and activate your communities!

Oakland Main Library

Starting in August 2022, we will kick off a robust and comprehensive community engagement process, including input from community members to build a vision of a new Main Library. How can the Main Library best support the diverse educational and social needs of all Oakland and increase support for your local branch to create a stronger Library system? Hoover Branch Library

The Hoover Branch Library Feasibility Study is happening! This is a major step towards the return of a dedicated branch library to this historic residential community. The study will be a community-inclusive process, which will document your vision and create an enduring plan that respects cultural legacy, while scribing a pathway towards new futures.
