Leonard Moore joined the MCPD in 2021. Leonard Moore was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina. Leonard received his bachelor’s degree in English/Technical Communications from North Carolina State University in 2000. He later received his teacher certification in 2003. After encountering obstacles in the job market related to his disability, he returned to graduate school to pursue his master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During this time, Leonard developed a broader understanding of the psychosocial aspect of disability along with the viatical and legislative foundation of the disability rights movement. This more comprehensive understanding played a critical role in reshaping his own identity and informing his role as an advocate in others' lives. After graduating in 2009, Leonard has since served as a rehabilitation counselor in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Oakland, California. In his role, he collaborates with various colleges and universities to help students with disabilities achieve their educational and employment goals. In 2016, he returned to NC State to pursue his doctorate in education.
