Oakland, CA – Mayor Libby Schaaf announced today the appointment of Justin Berton as her new Communications Director.
“I am very excited to have Justin join our team,” said Mayor Libby Schaaf. “Justin brings a wealth of media relations and strategic communications experience, as well as a strong familiarity with the issues Oaklanders care about most. He will be a tremendous asset as we work to ensure that residents in every community are staying informed on the steps we’re taking to improve City services and keep Oakland moving forward."
From 2001-2014, Berton was a reporter covering Oakland and the greater Bay Area for the San Francisco Chronicle and the East Bay Express. He is a graduate of San Francisco State University and currently lives in Oakland with his wife and two children.

Berton’s official start date is Tuesday, September 5.
