Fatal Hit and Run Investigation

On January 18, 2021, at approximately 6:01 AM, Oakland Police officers were dispatched to the 10200 block San Leandro Street to investigate a report of an auto collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian, who was unconscious and lying in the street.

On January 18, 2021, at approximately 6:01 AM, Oakland Police officers were dispatched to the 10200 block San Leandro Street to investigate a report of an auto collision involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian, who was unconscious and lying in the street. The vehicle fled the scene without rendering aid to the injured pedestrian. Oakland Fire Department and Falck personnel responded to the scene. The victim was a 54-year-old Hayward resident and was transported to the hospital where he was listed in critical condition from injuries sustained from the collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on San Leandro Street when the pedestrian started crossing the street. The pedestrian was not in a marked or unmarked crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle. The vehicle fled the scene eastbound on San Leandro Street. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision.

On January 25, 2021, the victim succumbed to his injuries.
