OPD To Kick Off CommUNITY Tour Block Party Series
Starting next week and continuing throughout the summer months, the Oakland Police Department (OPD) will host the “OPD CommUNITY Tour,” which will consist of a series of block parties. Each family fun-filled event will take place at a different location within the city of Oakland.
Back in 2021, during his swearing-in speech, Chief LeRonne L. Armstrong stated some of his top priorities are making the city safer by reducing violence and building trusting relationships in Oakland. He furthered that commitment by hosting the “Stand Up for a Safe Oakland” march and rally at Lake Merritt and visiting more than 30 communities during his Conversations Towards Solutions. The OPD CommUNITY Tour continues his promise of a #SAFEOAKLAND.
The series will kick off on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Verdese Carter Park located at 9600 Sunnyside Street.
At this event, OPD will provide food, ice cream, and beverages. There will be plenty of activities for families including jumpers, face painting, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, as well as prizes that will be raffled off.
This series of events is an awesome opportunity for community members and OPD to continue building trusting relationships, making the city of Oakland safer together.
