Safety Element

The Safety Element is a required chapter of the General Plan and is a policy framework to guide the public decision-making process on addressing natural and human-caused hazards.

In 2021, the City adopted the 2021-2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) as Appendix F of the Safety Element and is now available for public comment until Thursday, July 28th 2022 as part its annual update. Led by the Planning and Building Department, the City of Oakland is also in the process of updating the current Safety Element in Phase 1 of the General Plan Update.
