City of Oakland Mayor's Community Toy Drive

Help Bring Holiday Joy to Oakland’s Children

All toys will be distributed at Oakland City Hall on Saturday, December 17, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The 43rd Annual Mayor’s Community Toy Drive makes the holidays joyful for Oakland children whose families can’t afford gifts. The Office of Mayor Libby Schaaf and nearly 300 volunteers team up yearly to distribute toys, books, and sports equipment to almost 9,000 children from low-income families.

Last Year’s Impact

Thanks to your generosity last year, we helped provide nearly 10,000 children of Oakland with gift cards to local businesses. Your time, effort, and financial support helped families in need, businesses survive, and kept Oakland workers employed. This year, we will be accepting and distributing both gift cards and physical toys.

Donations

Every year, demand for gifts exceeds the donations we have. To help us meet our needs, please consider making a tax-deductible monetary donation.

  1. Make your donation online at https://posweb.oaklandnet.com/POSWeb/toydrive.aspx

  2. Write a check made payable to:

“The City of Oakland Community Toy Drive” c/o Office of the Mayor 1 Frank Ogawa Plaza – Third Floor Oakland, CA 94612

Note: Your contribution will be tax-deductible.

Volunteer

This event would not be possible without the support of volunteers from our community.

Our elves help us:

  • Separate and organize donated gift cards and toys

  • Prepare the registration sheets on clipboards

  • Decorate the toy workshop and prepare it for distribution

  • Call, email, and text our registered families to pick up their gift cards and toys

  • Give the toys and gift cards directly to families

Please sign up for one or more shifts (from Nov. 21 - Dec. 21) using this link.

Collection Bins

Physical donations, including toys, books, and sports equipment, are accepted at the following locations:

  • Oakland City Hall (1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza)

  • The Unity Council, email Caheri Gutierrez at cgutierrez@unitycouncil.org
