Creek Protection Ordinance

Creek Protection Ordinance amending Chapter 13:16 of the Oakland Municipal Code to eliminate non-storm water discharges to the stormdrain system and preserve creeks and riparian corridors.

Creeks, Watershed and Stormwater

We strive to restore and preserve Oakland's creeks, lakes and watershed to create a thriving urban ecosystem. We work with our community to reduce water use and keep harmful materials out of the environment. Oakland's watershed is comprised of 15 main creeks, over 30 tributaries, Lake Merritt and the Estuary.

Cultural Funding Program

The City of Oakland Cultural Funding Program distributes over $1 million through a competitive grant-funding process to Oakland-based art and cultural activities that reflect the diversity of the city.

Curb ramps are an essential piece of Oakland's infrastructure. ADA-compliant curb ramps increase accessibility so that Oaklanders of all abilities and ages can use our streets and sidewalks safely.

DeFremery Recreation Center

Occupying a full city block in the heart of West Oakland, beautiful DeFremery Park is a landmark destination steeped in Oakland history and culture. With its many large, mature trees and vibrant green fields, DeFremery Park is a calm and serene setting brought to life by locals using the park’s many facilities. The park’s swimming pool and Town Park skateboarding ramps attract young children, teens and families from the across the city, while community members gather for birthday parties and meetings at the park’s BBQ areas and picnic circles. Reviewers call DeFremery Park “West Oakland’s finest” and “a nice place for kids and families” with the “best skatepark in all of the Bay.” DeFremery Park earns high marks for its active recreation center and community calendar, with programs, classes and events scheduled throughout the year.

Democracy Dollars Program | Oakland Fair Elections Act

On November 8, 2022, Oakland voters approved ballot Measure W, the Oakland Fair Elections Act, creating a newly designed public campaign financing program that disperses $100 in Democracy Dollar vouchers to eligible Oakland residents who can then assign the Dollars to the candidate of their choice. The Democracy Dollars Program is expected to launch beginning in the 2026 election cycle.

Design Review Committee (DRC)

The Design Review Committee (DRC) is an official committee of the Oakland Planning Commission. The DRC meets every fourth Wednesday of the month (and additionally as needed) to provide design feedback to project developers and staff.
