Cathy Eberhardt has been a resident of Oakland for over seventeen years. She was elected to serve as Vice Chair to the MCPD for 2022. At the age of 40 she became disabled and was homeless for eighteen months, living in transitional housing and homeless shelters. Her personal experiences helped her understand the biases against persons with disabilities and she was inspired to become a leader in her community. She serves on the East Bay Asian Local Development (EBALDC) Chinatown Resident Leadership Council (RLC), is an advocate and volunteer on local neighborhood coalitions, worked to launch an Emergency Preparedness community project, and took action to improve pedestrian safety by reaching out to the California Highway Patrol and having an officer make a presentation to Chinatown residents. As an advocate for affordable housing through the East Bay Housing Organization (EBHO) for over 3 years, she has lobbied legislators in Sacramento and spoken before the Oakland City Council. Her leadership skills were recognized and in 2018 she graduated from the East Bay Housing Organization Leadership Academy and Urban Habitat Civic Leadership Committee. In 2019, she attended the Resident United Network (RUN), the NeighborWorks of America Community Leadership Institute in Chicago and was recommended to the Urban Habitat’s Boards and Commission Leadership Institute (BCLI) and attended the six month program in 2020.
